DOHENY: Live Appearances Announced
February 25, 2004DOHENY, the California-based band formed by ex-THE CULT touring bassist Billy Morrison (on guitar) and PITCHSHIFTER frontman Jon "J.S." Clayden, have announced the following gigs during March/April:
Mar. 13 - The Gig – Hollywood, CA
Apr. 02 - The Gig - Hollywood, CA
In other news, Clayden and Morrison performed with Billy's side project CAMP FREDDY at the "A Diamond Is Forever" Pre-Oscar Party in the Hollywood Hills a few days ago. Luminaries in the crowd and on stage included Macy Gray, Juliette Lewis, Stephen Jenkins, Mark McGrath, Nicole Richie, Carmen Electra, Amber Valletta, Ricki Lake and Sharon Stone.
Commented DOHENY guitarist Sean Kipe: "It's not often you get to see your own band mates performing from the crowd. I have to say I thought they were awesome. I never thought I'd see Sharon Stone rocking out to my friends playing a SEX PISTOLS cover!"
In a recent interview with Blistering.com, Clayden compared the sound of DOHENY to that of his previous band. "DOHENY has no samples, period," he said. "If the five of us can't play it live, it's not on the record. We decided very early on that we would like to explore our melodic sides with DOHENY. There are harmonies and heavy sections, incongruous timing signatures and straight up 4/4 beats. DOHENY is all about well written music with meaningful lyrics. The writing process is TOTALLY different to PITCHSHIFTER. In PITCHSHIFTER we would deliberately mangle everything in our samplers to sound as fucked up as possible. With DOHENY we deliberately keep everything as untampered as possible to let the song ring through. You can pretty much play every DOHENY song on an acoustic guitar and many of them were actually written that way to start off with — just a couple of guys and some acoustic guitars. Of course, the final song has a full compliment of instruments and totally rocks with electrics, but at the base of any good song is a strong vocal line and a single guitar. DOHENY is totally different to anything I have ever done before and I am very proud of what we have all achieved as a band. Of course not everyone from our past ventures is going to dig DOHENY, but I welcome those along for the ride that 'get it'." Read the rest of the interview here.
